Akiba Introduces A New Modern Library

Library

The Akiba library has a collection of about 11,000 titles of general and Judaic interest, in both print and media. Students from preschool through grade eight regularly visit the library, with weekly classes scheduled for pre-K through fifth grade.

Akiba’s library has just stepped into a new era of automation: all books and resources have been electronically catalogued, making the database accessible to Akiba families, students, faculty and staff via a new link, right from this web page!

Meet our Library Staff
Dedicated Individuals, Making a Difference

Gayle Roth is one of Akiba’s most seasoned educators. She teaches general studies in 4th grade and hosts classes in the library most afternoons. Library staffHer duties include reading to children, checking books in and out and helping everyone find the book that they need for a specific project or their personal enjoyment.

Nancy Cunningham is the tireless person responsible for the automation of our library catalog. She is the one who is making sure that every title and resource is electronically included in our library database. In addition, she assists the teachers in finding specific books or collections of books to use as resources for their classes. She is a certified librarian and has worked at The Wise Academy, Richardson ISD, and St. Marks.

Polly Gilbert is the expert who has been guiding our new library practices, including the selection of electronic databases and defining the training parameters for teachers and students. Ms. Gilbert comes to Akiba once or twice monthly to give instruction on how to use our electronic databases, as well as to teach and read with our students. Polly was librarian at JJ Pearce High School and at St. Marks for 23 years. She is the inspiration behind the automation of our Library.
