Today, 4th grade students participated in the first of a two-part field trip entitled: Music and Motion at the Dallas Zoo in conjunction with the Dallas Symphony.
At the zoo, our students had a guided tour with a docent who helped them with their observations and related the movements of the animals to music. After the 45 minute tour, students participated in a music lesson with an artist where they composed their own melodies and music to correlate with the movements of the animals they observed earlier in the day.
4th grade students had a great day, in the rain and all, learning outside of the classroom...creating, collaborating, and observing.
The second half of the experiential learning opportunity will take place after the 1st of the year when students will go to the Meyerson Symphony Center for a performance of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra to hear melodies that they, and other participating groups, wrote from their experiences today at the zoo.
