Parent Teacher Association

The Parent Teacher Association of Akiba Academy of Dallas enriches the educational experience of parents, students, and teachers. The PTA organizes fundraisers, provides programming, promotes school spirit, and serves as a link to the school community. PTA goals are accomplished through the volunteer efforts of parents and faculty.
The PTA provides opportunities to meet and talk with other parents who share the same goals, objectives and hopes
Being part of a group results in parental support and makes school involvement easier. You will no longer “feel alone” in rearing your children
PTA provides an opportunity to serve, volunteer, and contribute to something important
PTA will introduce you to a variety of new activities and opportunities to share your
special talents
No job is too big or too small for PTA volunteers
Each job helps your children and each volunteer strengthens PTA
This is your school. We welcome your involvement!

Board
The intent of the Board is to provide support for the major focus of our PTA. We are a sounding board for the rest of the school.

We are entirely volunteer run, and every parent in the school is encouraged to participate in any capacity that they are able.

Events/Fundraisers
The events and fundraisers tend to vary from year to year. The goal, however, remains consistent – to provide funds for additional programming that the school could not otherwise support.

Back to School Event: A wonderful time to get together with old friends and meet new ones prior to the first day of school. Coincides with the Kindergarten Open House and Middle School Locker Party.

Book Fair: The PTA remains committed to hosting a book fair each year. This is a great opportunity for parents to purchase books for their children while at the same time books are donated to the school library and each classroom.

PTA Lecture Series: PTA coordinates lectures throughout the year on a variety of topics which are appealing to parents.

Gemilut Chasidim/Sunshine Committee: Volunteers personally welcome new families to Akiba and present a gift bag to each family. They also deliver meals to families after the birth of a child and during difficult times.

Meals on Wheels: A wonderful mitzvah opportunity! Pick up food at Jewish Family Services and deliver to designated individuals/families.

Sukkot Dinner: An opportunity for the whole family to share a meal in our school’s sukkah.

Chanukah Dinner: A fun and casual evening each December for the entire family.

Holiday Treats: The Judaic program is enhanced with fun and festive treats to coincide with the holidays.

Dad vs. Staff Basketball: An exciting Friday afternoon game that is open to the entire school. Akiba dads team up against our Akiba (male) staff for an exciting and entertaining game of basketball.

Spirit Wear: Fun and relaxed clothing and other items that enhance our school spirit.

Challah Program: Families may pre-order (at a reduced price) a fresh challah to be delivered to a student’s classroom every Shabbat.

Room Parents
Room parent coordinators are divided into grades K-8 and Preschool. They are responsible for contacting each room parent for communication and for securing volunteers.

The room parents work closely with the respective teachers. They plan birthday celebrations, help the teachers coordinate volunteers, communicate with each parent in the classroom, plan class parties and generally do what they can to facilitate a warm environment between the parents of our students and the teachers. They are our cheerleaders!

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer opportunities are endless. We are always open to new ideas and events that will enhance our school’s programs and community appeal. This is an excellent way to support Akiba. Please take the time to see if you would like to participate in any of these opportunities:
